Test: HPV vaccination in Malawi

This is a test note for the Observatory. It links to Malawi, a country where AJCR has not yet published research, to check that the story appears on Malawi in the Observatory.

According to WHO/UNICEF estimates, the share of girls in Malawi who had a first dose of HPV vaccine by age 15 rose from 51% in 2022 to 82% in 2025.

Cervical cancer elimination: the 90–70–90 targets

WHO's global strategy to accelerate the elimination of cervical cancer, launched in 2020, sets three targets for 2030: 90% of girls fully vaccinated against HPV by age 15, 70% of women screened with a high-performance test by 35 and again by 45, and 90% of women identified with cervical disease receiving treatment. AJCR's sample issue includes a synthetic study of HPV self-sampling in Ibadan, one of the approaches services are testing to reach the screening target.

Sample note for website testing.
