AJCR's inaugural issue is online, with two opening letters and twelve synthetic research articles from authors in twelve African countries.

The inaugural issue covers molecular and translational oncology, clinical research, epidemiology and population health, and health systems and policy. Its research articles, authors and results are synthetic and were created to test the journal's publishing system; the institutions named are real.
